The Candels team often is asked the question “Where do I go to learn how to be an estimator?” To our knowledge, electrical estimating training does not seem to be on the curriculum at any college (and our apologies to any college that actually offers this training. Call Candels and we will gladly link you on our website!)
Most estimators have historically learned “on the job” by being mentored by a fellow estimator or the chief estimator. Often time, a person will start with the most basic tasks, such as counting lighting fixtures or branch devices. However, the reality is that it is hard to learn on the job, especially when your “teacher” is overloaded with work of his/her own. That’s where Candels comes in. We can work with your estimator in training, starting with the basics, and pointing out potential pitfalls along the way, such as how to address keyed notes and other notes on the drawings or specs. Training can then progress from basic counting to measuring feeders and taking off more complex systems. This is a totally tailored program. Please call Candels for availability and rates.
